Fostering recovery for species, people & Country
Work with us to apply innovative solutions for
the protection and preservation of
threatened species and systems.
Together, we can make a positive impact
for the environment.
Kuril is the name given to the water rat (Hydromys cryogaster) in several First languages of south-east Queensland. This adaptable species moves seamlessly between fresh and salt water Country. It teaches us to follow natural flows, crossing apparent boundaries to find opportunities and solutions.
The Currawong (genus Strepera) is a familiar friend from the coasts to the semi-arid zones, our back yards to our wild spaces. Their distinctive onomatopoeic name sings in many ears. They teach us the everyday joy in the familiar, the subtly of diversity, and to work together to be observant, flexible and playful.
This is why we called our collaborative network Kuril & Currawong. We are a diverse and interconnected assemblage of ecologists. Like the Kuril and the Currawong, we have our unique characters and skills. Yet, we are united in our commitment to our common goal - using those skills to find innovative solutions to environmental crises.
The collective operates in a ‘hub and spoke’ fashion, with lead ecologist and founder Dr Renee Rossini collaborating with or receiving and redistributing projects across a network of ecologists, social scientists, First Nations partners, academics and land managers.
What does Kuril & Currawong do?

Find sustainable solutions to foster long-term recovery action
Back from the Brink
Market-based mechanisms
Environmental markets grow, and can create meaningful environmental impact. We navigate this complex world by employing and driving innovation in:
Carbon crediting in voluntary and regulated markets incl. Blue Carbon
Biodiversity markets including Federal offsetting, BCT (NSW), LRF (Qld), Nature Repair, and voluntary co-benefit frameworks
Collaborating on monitoring financial and social co-benefits
