Finding sustainable solutions for Land Back initiatives
on Bundjalung Country

Tweed Byron Local Aboriginal Land Council were given back several parcels of land on the heavily populated northern NSW coastline. However, these parcels came with no ongoing funding support for their management. As part of a broader strategic advice-set sought by TBLALC, we partnered with Bower Ecology to survey for biodiversity values, and seek avenues that the LALC could access environmental markets to leverage the ongoing management of their land.

Our role is multi-part. We support this project by:

  • Participate in baseline biodiversity surveys following the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust BioBank methods led by Bower

  • Lead in the assessment of potential for the abatement of carbon and subsequent sale of Australian Carbon Credit Units using a range of Clean Energy Regulator approved methods

  • Complete targeted searches for rare and threatened species including the beach-stone curlew (Escacus magnirostris), glossy-black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami), koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), squirrel glider (Petaurus norfolcensis), large-footed myotis fishing bat (Myotis macropus), and the wallum sedge frog (Litoria olongburensis) to support TBLALC applications for biodiversity funding
